Adam Morgan takes third race honors at Thruxton
Adam Morgan took his first win of the 2022 BTCC season with victory in the final race of the weekend at Thruxton.
The Ciceley Motorsport driver had started from the front row of the grid alongside Jason Plato but edged out the Honda man at the start to take the lead and would never be led from that point on.
This was despite the best efforts of Colin Turkington chasing him close despite having a good escape at the start, although the WSR rider was unable to add to his own win tally.
Plato’s bid for another win effectively ended in a slow start on the line, with the two-time champion being gobbled up on the opening lap by the peloton behind as he fell to fifth behind Dan Rowbottom and Ash Sutton .
Sutton cleared Rowbottom on lap two and chased both BMW drivers, but had to settle for third place at the finish.
Rowbottom followed in fourth ahead of Josh Cook, who would lead the BTC Racing challenge again after a moment when Plato saw him run off the track at Church, which forced him to pit to clear the grass at the front of the car.
Tom Ingram took sixth place in his Hyundai after a fierce battle with Jake Hill saw the BMW slide into the Hyundai at the chicane – causing Hill to go to the pits to have a damaged bumper removed from the car and get him out of the top ten.
Dan Lloyd followed Ingram home in seventh place, with Michael Crees earning his best result of the series to date in eighth place. Ash Hand and Roru Butcher complete the top ten.
