BULLDOGS WITHDRAW LATE TO END THE ROAD TRIP WITH A VICTORY

Houghton, MI. – The No.18 Bulldogs end their road trip taking on the Michigan Tech Huskies. The Bulldogs took advantage of a second-half push to pull away from Michigan Tech and win the game 67-50.

The Bulldogs used a strong defensive performance in the first half as they managed to force 8 turnovers in the half and kept the Huskies under 40 percent on shots during the half. Nor would the Huskies attempt a single free throw in the first half. Offensively, the Bulldogs used a balanced attack to take a 30-24 lead. The Bulldogs scored 7 players in the first half, led by Maesyn Thiesen who had 8 points, including 2 three in the first half. Both teams would struggle to maintain possession as the Bulldogs made 9 turnovers in the half while the Huskies had 8. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 12-27 (44.4%) on the field and 4-13 (30.8%) out of three. point range. They also shot 2-2 from the free throw line. As for the Huskies, they would be led by Katelyn Meister in the first half as she led the Huskies with 8 points. Overall, the Huskies shot 11-28 (39.3%) from the field and 2-8 (25%) from three points.

In the second half, the Bulldogs’ offense would activate it as they would outclass the Huskies 37-26 in the half. To start the third quarter, the teams exchanged points to start the quarter. After the first three minutes, the UMD started to pull away as they slowly built their lead. The Bulldogs led by up to 12 points in the quarter and eventually took a 47-37 lead in the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs and Huskies traded points in the first two minutes. The Bulldogs finally built their lead up to 20 points late in the quarter as the Bulldogs managed to break the Michigan Tech press and maintain their lead. The Bulldogs managed to pull away from the Huskies in the second half to win the game 67-50.

The Bulldogs were led by Brooke Olson who had a high of 17 points. Maesyn Thiesen also added 14 points on the night while dropping 3-4 from a three-point range. Madelyn Granica led the Bulldogs with 6 rebounds while Payton kahl added 5 rebounds. Thiesen collected 4 assists on the night to lead the team. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 26-51 (51%) from the field while shooting 6-18 (33.3%) at three points. They also shot 9-10 (90%) from the free throw line.

The Huskies were led by Ellie Mackay who collected 10 points in the evening. Sara Dax added 8 rebounds on the night while Katelyn Meister added 3 assists to lead Michigan Tech. Overall, the Huskies struggled on the field as they shot 21-64 (32.8%) and 4-15 (26.7%) from three points. The Huskies also shot 4-4 from the free throw line.
