Evolve Hadean Carbon Electric Skateboard

After a few weeks of riding the new Hadean Carbon All Terrain from Evolve Skateboard, I had no doubts about its ability to traverse most of the terrain I could throw at it. What I still had doubts about regularly was whether I would be able to keep my feet on the board during this time. The Hadean Carbon is an incredible machine capable of reaching speeds of up to 26 miles per hour, with 7 inch pneumatic tires that can easily handle city streets, dirt roads and grass fields. As I got used to the board, my eyes continued to widen to where I wanted it to take me. The problem was no longer whether the board could take me where I wanted, but whether I could hold onto it during the trip.

I spent my review time with a pre-production model, so it’s a little unfair to judge it heavily on the specifics of fit and finish. The few rough spots I encountered, such as a hidden charging connector, were all due to early manufacturing issues that were resolved in the shipping units. What I feel most comfortable discussing is the overall experience and the feeling that this particular tip can provide.

I’ve ridden several boost boards over the years, as well as electric scooters and other personal electric vehicles. Evolve’s new Hadean Carbon is unlike any of these and occupies a unique place in the personal mobility space. It’s not a board for everyone, especially at retail at $ 2,900, but for some people it will be magic.

TL; DR

Advantages:

  • Fast top speed of 26 miles per hour
  • Long battery life, with a range of 25 miles
  • Smooth and comfortable ride

The inconvenients:

  • Heavy to carry (30 pounds)
  • Expensive price

The first Hadean Carbon Ride

My first impression of the Hadean Carbon was its weight. There is no way to get around her 30 pounds. It’s heavy to carry, but not impossible. The good news is that because the board can travel on so many types of ground, it shouldn’t need to be carried a lot. It will be a disappointment, however, for people who live in an upstairs apartment.

Setup only requires turning on the board and its remote, each with just one push of a button. The syncing process between the remote and the skateboard was quick in my experience. The remote control is an integral part of most electric skateboards and is no exception here. The remote has a CNC aluminum reinforced body with a miniature screen to display speed, battery life and settings. It’s an awesome remote control in almost every way. The physical buttons can be customized in the settings, including using the dead man’s switch, which sits under the palm of a hand.

This card has serious torque and horsepower with a total listed horsepower of 6000 watts. Even for the more serious, I would recommend taking a ride in Eco mode for the first ride. The acceleration curve is much smoother in Eco. This allowed me to have a grip on the trigger button used to move forward and the thumb button to break. After riding for a week and almost reaching top speed, I still didn’t really feel comfortable with the more extreme riding mode. Usually, Sport mode was sufficient for a mixture of speed and control.

Driving off road

The Boosted Board was a very traditional longboard with an electric motor, but the Hadean Carbon is different. In fact, it is almost the opposite. The company told me that it focused on building the best performing bike ever, then made it look like a skateboard after the fact.

One example is the forged carbon fiber deck. It is wide, stable and solid. I really liked its slight flex combined with its mostly stiff feel. It allowed me to focus on the turns and carving more than worrying about what was under my feet. It is important to note that the specifications state that the skateboard has a weight capacity of 265 pounds, capable of holding a wide range of people.

The bridge also has a smart lighting system below. It provides real-time hazard warning lights when the break button is pressed. The color of the light at start-up can also be changed for greater driver customization.

Of course, all the features are there to provide an unprecedented driving experience. Once, while I was out for a walk, I spontaneously decided to take a shortcut to a hill of uneven dirt. Skateboarding handled it without a second thought. I cruised deep crevices but rolled over tree roots and rocks. This is something a street sign could never do. Many times I have taken a route through a grassy park just because the board was performing well enough. I also cut the curb corners the whole time, but sometimes it was necessary to make a sharp turn.

While the Haden Carbon board has a fine turning radius and can carve in a snowboard-like way, it has its limits. It is difficult to make sharp turns on the city streets. There is also no reverse mode, so getting stuck may require manual flipping of the board. In this regard, the Hadean Carbon is not the best commuter board. But due to its long reach and smooth ride, it can certainly be used for trips with both simple and non-complex paths. The board might even be able to create its own less complicated path with the ground it can move on.

I also tested the board’s stated ability to climb slopes at 35 percent. He absolutely can do it and maybe more, depending on the circumstances. In my case, I tried to push it further, up a steep dirt hill. The board traveled about 15 feet before losing traction. This is an extreme example, but with tires that had bumps on them, the board could have gone the entire distance of 50 feet.

Often times my hesitation was whether I could handle the instantaneous torque and fast speeds of the board. Granted, I fell once by pulling the trigger too quickly. I also fell a second time when I squeezed the brake too quickly, rather than sinking into it. The board can stop on a dime so I started running and couldn’t keep my balance.

Should you buy an Evolve Hadean Carbon skateboard?

The buy recommendation here is easy to give to people in the market for this type of product: go for it. The driving experience is both exciting and practical.

If you know you are looking for this type of skateboard or form of transportation then this is a great buy. It can serve a certain type of ride well, but mostly it’s really fun.

Likewise, it’s just as easy to recommend that many people look elsewhere. This is a high end table that goes beyond what a lot of people will need. The Hadean Carbon is part of a line from Evolve, which also offers its Stroke board for $ 1,200. Stroke still isn’t cheap, but it’s more accessible and can offer a range of 10 miles.

Even for extreme sports use, it is difficult to see the Haden Carbon All Terrain board not being able to keep up. The question is just whether you need something that can go through grass, dirt, and everything in between.
