Some Disney fans have expressed concern that Disney attractions have recently changed in very interesting ways.

Disney parks are packed with truly indescribable experiences, all tied together by Disney’s dedication to immersion and world-class theme. Rides like Flight of Passage in Pandora – The World of Avatar or Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge shows just how advanced and immersive Disney attractions can be with the all-new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT.

However, all ride effects rely on very specific angles, tricks, illusions, and lighting, with the latter being perhaps the most important aspect for attractions, at least when it comes to dark rides like Haunted. Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. .

In a post shared on Reddit, a guest discussed their issues with Disney rides. See the full message below:

Returned from our week long trip to Disney on Monday, overall had a great time although I have a few gripes.

One of the weirdest is this: have the dark rides gotten…darker?

My last trip was August 2018, did pretty much the same rides this time as last time. It seemed on average that the rides were 10-30% lower. Haunted Mansion being the absolute worst.

I know this is supposed to be a dark ride, but not a word of a lie, there were plenty of times I just couldn’t see anything. It was so dark. I remember my 2018 experience quite well and it was so much better lit.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

The complaint the guest had was with lightning at some Disney attractions. The main attraction mentioned in the post is the Haunted Mansion and in the comments many users agreed, saying they also noticed how dark the other attractions are now.

One user said, “I rode Dinosaur more times than sane in 2019, then you could see all the animatronics, dinos, landscapes, asteroids, etc. This time you could barely see the Carnotaurus. It was basically a bumpy ride with vague dino shapes. Nobody in my car was reacting because… you couldn’t see anything. Seriously sad”.

Many have mentioned the mammoth scene on Spaceship Earth in EPCOT, saying the scene is barely noticeable. While there’s no concrete evidence to suggest these rides are getting darker, many guests seem to think so.

Another user introduced Splash Mountain into the discussion, saying the photos taken during the ride are also incredibly dark.

Of course, some of the rides mentioned are dated, particularly Spaceship Earth, so things may not always be running at full capacity. DINOSAUR underwent an extended renovation a few years ago, which brought many improvements to the attraction. We can’t confirm if the Disney rides are going dark or not, but it’s an interesting observation that many fans have.
