But a number of companies, such as Bank of America, have pledged only to suspend or review their donations to PAC, not to end it permanently. Dow, for example, said PAC donations to these lawmakers would cease – for an election cycle. Even without PAC money, campaign money can still come from individual leadership donations. Additionally, candidate campaigns are only a target for political contributions, separate from things like advocacy campaigns and attacking advertisements from outside groups. When the Center for Political Accountability, in conjunction with the Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, compiles its CPA-Zicklin Index, it tracks donations to groups including professional associations, 501 (c) 4 and 527 organizations, and channels for independent spending and advocacy of voting measures.
