Gorillas lead three-game winning streak in MIAA opener

Pitt State (4-1) hosts Newman on Wednesday night.
PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Pittsburg State Women’s Basketball Team kicks off their MIAA program Wednesday night, welcoming Newman at 5:30 p.m.
Pitt State is 4-1 and on a three-game winning streak leading up to their clash with the Jets.
In their first five games. the Gorillas have 10 players averaging 10+ minutes per game. This depth will be important for PSU as they move towards the MIAA grind.
“Starting with our exhibition games and our scrums, that was an important point. We wanted everyone to participate and everyone to feel confident and at ease, “said head coach Amanda Davied,” Sometimes comfort comes before confidence. I think that’s where it kind of played out the way we wanted it to. We did what we needed to do against the teams we played with to feel good. This is where it leaves us now. We are ready for this next challenge and this week will be a good one.
The Gorillas have also used their first five games to build chemistry, get young players precious minutes and create some consistency early in the season.
“You can’t always know who’s going to show up which night, but it’s getting closer,” Davied said of his teams’ consistency. “The good thing is that the girls play connected. The biggest part of being confident is that we share the basketball, so they have to feel confident in each other. We had 20 assists. and 21 assists so it’s a really brilliant play, I think it just shows that they play well together.
