What do Nemo, Simba and The Incredibles have in common? They all have pretty amazing dads.
Father’s Day is your chance to step beyond the father figure in your life. Give dad the party he deserves by make the most of your time.
Where to start ? With a good idea.
Add Father’s Day Favorites to Your Calendar
Every dad is a little different. Some just want to enjoy a little “time for me”, while others would be happy to train in the yard all day.
If you don’t know what to do, choose from this list of Father’s Day favorites:

- Host a backyard barbecue.
- Host a movie night to watch their favorite movie.
- Get tickets for a concert.
- Host a wine tasting at home.
- Host a dads quiz night.
- Prepare a special breakfast loaded with daddy’s favorites.
- Work on a carpentry project together.
- Go up and watch all of the daddy’s and kid’s YouTube videos.
- Hike at a nearby state park.
- Go kayaking, canoeing or boating to the nearest lake.
- Sign up for a class together this summer, from painting to cooking.
- Host an ice cream party.
- Surprise him at work with lunch.

Most of these activities require some planning. Don’t tell daddy, but start scheduling it in your online calendar.
How to get there
If you haven’t planned ahead, don’t worry! Just make the best Father’s Day possible for your dad today.
Remembering Father’s Day is one thing. It is quite another to engage in the preparations necessary to make this a special day. Life is busy and sometimes you just need that extra helping hand to finish the preparations for Father’s Day. If you forgot it, well! Do something today anyway.
Next year, with your online calendar, you will be able to use time blocking methods to make sure Father’s Day gets the attention it needs. If you are planning the day with Dad, let him choose these times. If you keep it a secret, pick times to focus on Father’s Day when Dad is busy with other activities.
Rope in the right people
Your online calendar can be easily shared with family members. It’s perfect for coordinating events, like a surprise party involving the whole family. Many calendar apps even have messaging capabilities to communicate dates and locations.
If large gatherings or surprises aren’t your dad’s cup of tea, you can share your calendar event with him alone. Together you can choose the right times to enjoy your father’s favorite traditions or activities for Father’s Day. Planning it with his contribution can make the day even more meaningful for him.
Set up an itinerary
For a perfect Father’s Day plan, one event may not be enough. If you’re doing everything you can, use an online calendar to structure Daddy’s Day for him. Encourage him to keep his schedule blank, or at least to maximize the time he has to celebrate.
Remember that an itinerary is more than a list of times and places. Make sure to include any notes, instructions, or tickets needed to make the day go off without a hitch. Set reminders to remember urgent activities, such as baseball games.
Next year – Deal with details sooner
Online calendars come with plenty of features to organize the perfect Father’s Day. Key tools include:
You don’t have time for a dozen emails just to build your Father’s Day guest list. Encourage attendees to book a time directly on your calendar. Not only does this save time, but it also avoids double bookings by displaying only the available time slots.
Especially if you are expecting a crowd for Father’s Day, sort the attendees into groups with a color code. This way, you don’t confuse barbecue attendees with those who can only make it to the pool party.
When planning events until the big day, it’s important to keep perspective. An online calendar lets you view your schedule across different time horizons – you can look at just Father’s Day or extend it to the whole week to see what’s left on your to-do list.
Analyze Father’s Day
Some online calendars come with analytics that give you the big picture of how you’re spending your time. Use them to make sure your dad’s day is exactly what he wants.
Pay close attention to the breakdown of people on your online calendar: Did your dad spend most of his day with family and friends? If so, then you are probably right. If in doubt, have him weigh in to make sure he enjoys next year’s Father’s Day even more.
You know your dad best, but you can’t do it on your own. Make your online calendar your sidekick and you’ll be the superhero behind his perfect Father’s Day.
