100 Years Ago – November 4, 1921 Purchase of Historic Building – The Blackhawk Putnam homestead at the corner of North and Smyrna streets, built in 1813 by Aaron Putnam, was purchased by the Putnam Brothers.

Retired postal carrier – David Watson, RFD transporter, will retire this week after nearly 30 years of service at the Houlton Post Office.
75 years ago – October 30, 1946
Freeley is USO District President – George Barnes, Vice President of USO today announced the appointment of the District President for fundraising for the USO. Austin Freeley of Houlton is the chairman and will oversee fundraising.
To take the bench – Harry Baulch, a well-known Houlton lawyer and World War II veteran, was appointed yesterday by Governor Horace Hildreth to be a judge of the Houlton Municipal Court.
50 years ago – November 4, 1971
Kodak donates $ 1,500 – Ricker College received an unrestricted grant of $ 1,500 from the Eastman Kodak Company as part of the company’s 1971 Educational Assistance Program, Ricker President announced Tuesday, Robert Matson.
Information Center in Houlton – State Representative Roy Bither told the Houlton Chamber of Commerce board of directors on Tuesday that the State Highway Commission is planning to build a tourist information center in Houlton.
25 years ago – October 30, 1996
In the beginning – According to Principal Jago, the Greater Houlton Christian Academy is a new school. The school has roots with Christian education dating back to 1984. The Country Road Baptist Church under Rev. Rihard Rockwell had a vision for Christian education in the area.
Make a difference day – Houlton’s first experience with the national community volunteer program, âMake A Difference Day,â went off without a hitch, according to Cecila Rhoda, one of the event’s organizers. Dubbed âHoulton On Call Day,â Saturday saw more than 30 community members of all ages and professions offering their jobs and services to anyone in the area who asked for help with various tasks.
