‘King of Croft’ Turkington tops second hybrid test

Colin Turkington once again topped the times at the second official BTCC test of the offseason at Croft as teams continued to work to get up to speed with the new Cosworth hybrid systems.
The WSR driver was one of five drivers to dive under his own lap record at the North Yorkshire circuit to take the lead in his BMW 330e M Sport, as he did at Donington Park during the test “hybrid installation” last month.
Turkington’s fastest time of 1:21.497s came in the morning race as he completed a 52-lap session and was good enough to leave him a tenth of a second ahead of team-mate Stephen Jelley – who was fastest in the afternoon.
Dan Cammish was third fastest in the first of two NAPA Racing Fords as the front-wheel-drive leader ahead of the Hondas of Josh Cook and Gordon Shedden.
Tom Ingram was close to the lap record in his EXCELR8 Hyundai to complete the top six ahead of Jake Hill, who was limited to just ten afternoon laps in his BMW.
Rookie George Gamble, defending champion Ash Sutton and Adam Morgan round out the top ten.
A total of 22 drivers completed timed laps during the day with all teams present except Team HARD with their Cupras.
Then the field will travel to Thruxton next week for the season kick-off test, where all 29 cars are expected to hit the track.
