Lion Links: 3/8/21 – The land of manes

Happy Monday morning, Mane Landers! What I’m really wondering is how many of you pulled the trigger to get the new ‘Thick N Thin’ jersey? I am about to order mine. Do you like henley? What about the white accents on the sleeves? I am really curious to know what you think about it. In the meantime, let’s move on to the links.

Daryl Dike is on fire in England

Since Orlando City striker Daryl Dike was loaned to Barnsley FC, the club have not lost any points in an English Football League championship game. Seven straight wins prompted Barnsley to push for promotion rather than trying to avoid relegation. Although it took a few games for Dike to get started, he has received plenty of praise for scoring three goals in the last four games for the Reds, including that winning strike in the last win over Birmingham this weekend. .

Dike rightly won The honors of the man of the match for this service. If he returns to Orlando as planned, the Lions will have a more confident Daryl Dike ready to play.

Jordyn Listro Focuses On Continuing Her Success

It’s been a whirlwind of a year for Orlando Pride midfielder Jordyn Listro. In less than a year, Listro went from guest to player under contract with the Pride and started for Canada in the SheBelieves Cup. Listro saw limited action for pride last season, although that can also be said about the whole squad due to the pandemic. She did impress during the fall series, however, and now looks to excel in her first full season with pride. Given her skill, tenacity and attitude, Listro is the type of player who fits Marc Skinner’s plans for the team well.

CONMEBOL suspends World Cup qualifiers

The CONMEBOL 2022 World Cup qualifiers were due to take place later this month, but the South American federation has suspended matches given the difficulty of having readily available players together due to the pandemic. Some MLS players who would have been absent for these playoffs will now be available for the club’s preseason games. For Orlando, this news could affect the availability of goalkeeper Pedro Gallese and midfielder Sebas Mendez as both could run out of time during the season depending on when the postponed games are rescheduled.

Americans abroad this weekend

Dike wasn’t the only American doing well in Europe this weekend. Werder Bremen’s Josh Sargent scored in his second straight game to help his club win a 1-1 draw against FC Cologne. Brenden Aaronson netted a goal and an assist in Red Bull Salzburg’s 4-1 win over SKN St. Poelten, while Luca de la Torre scored his first goal with Eredivisie’s Heracles Almelo.

US defenders also performed well as center-back Erik Palmer-Brown recovered from injury in Austria Vienna’s scoreless draw with Rapid Vienna. Chris Richards, Sergino Dest and Cameron Carter-Vickers also did well for their respective teams.

It will do it for today, folks. Have a good Monday and the rest of your week.
