MEN’S BASKETBALL COMPLETES A TOUGH ROAD TRIP WITH A WEEKEND SWEEP

Moorhead, Minn. – The No. 12/17 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs visited on Saturday afternoon to face the Minnesota and Moorhead State Dragons. The Bulldogs’ offense fired in the first half and continued in the second half with a 92-71 victory. The Bulldogs have improved to 13-0 this season.

The Head Coach Justin wieck on today’s victory; “Great effort from our whole team tonight. We played fantastic on both sides of the pitch. Super proud of our guys at the end of this long road trip. Great to be able to be 13-0 before the break!”

After a slow start to the game leading 6-5 with 16:44 left in the first half, the Bulldogs’ offense started to gain momentum. They quickly took an 8-point lead as they led 18-10 with 10:26 left at halftime. From there, the Bulldogs’ offense remained hot, as Drew blair scored 5 straight points for the Bulldogs to extend the lead to 12 points. The Dragons reduced the lead to 7 points before the UMD pulled away again. The Bulldogs drove an 11-2 run to end the half and take a 48-31 lead at the half. The Bulldogs shot 18-33 (54.5%) from the field and 5-11 (45.5%) at three points in the half. They also shot 7-12 from the foul line. The Bulldogs’ defense gave the Dragons some problems on offense as they only shot 9-29 (31.1%) from the field and 1-8 (12.5%) from three points. They also shot 12-12 from the foul line.

The Bulldogs picked up where they left off as Jack middleton started the half with a three-pointer. From there, the Bulldogs slowly began to build their lead as they led up to 26 points in the second half. After strengthening their lead, the Bulldogs and Dragons began to redeem points. The Dragons were not to dig into the Bulldogs’ lead at all as the Bulldogs held them out in the second half. A dunk of Joshua Brown with 3:42 left in the game seemed to be the dagger as the Bulldogs prevailed on the road to win 92-71. The Bulldogs’ offense remained hot in the second half as they shot 15-27 (55.6%) from the field and 6-14 (42.9%) from three points. They also shot 8-10 from the foul line. The Dragons’ offense found its rhythm in the second half, shooting 15-28 (53.6%) from the field and 5-12 (41.7%) at three points. They also shot 5-6 from the foul line.

The Bulldogs had the 5 double-digit starters again, led by Austin andrews with 19 points overnight. Jack middleton and Drew blair also added 17 points in the evening. Joshua strong added 9 points off the bench for the Bulldogs. Andrews led the team with 10 rebounds on the night. Charlie katona led the team with 6 assists while Andrews added 5 to his own. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 33-60 (55%) from the field and 11-25 (44%) from three points. They also shot 15-22 (68.2%) from the foul line.

The Dragons were led by Bryce Irsfeld who collected 19 points in the evening. Dane Zimmer led the team with 6 rebounds on the night. Irsfeld also led the team with 5 assists on the evening. Overall, the Dragons shot 24-57 (42.1%) from the field and 6-20 (30%) from three points. They also shot 17-18 (94.4%) from the foul line on the night.

The Bulldogs will have two weeks off before their next game when they travel to face St. Cloud State on Jan. 2.
