Men’s tennis dominates Clark University; Claims the first of two matches on a Massachusetts road trip

WORCESTER, MA. – The University of New Jersey City men’s team traveled to Worcester, Mass., for a game against Clark University on Thursday, April 21. .
This is NJCU’s first-ever matchup (6-4) with Clark (3-10) since the program restarted last fall. The Gothic Knights jumped in as the sophomore duo of Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/IES Politécnico) and Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) left the field with an 8-0 victory in doubles No. 3. Senior co-captain Théo Bourghelle (Lesquin, France/LaSalle Lille) and second Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) earned the second doubles point after beating their opponents 8-3 in first place. For Doubles Endpoint, Junior Ryan Weiss (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) and rookie Olaf de Lange (Maasland, Netherlands/Stedelijk Gymnasium Schiedam) battled to an 8-5 victory in second place.
Weiss moved quickly to claim a 6-0, 6-1 win for fifth in singles. De Lange followed with a scoreless sweep at No. 6 and then Ley with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Teynie stopped his opponent in the front row, leaving no game behind. Bourghelle was the next to leave the field with a 6-1, 6-2 win, while Julia closed out the day with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #3.
