Rainbow Wahine football heads to the Pacific Northwest for the first road trip of the season
The University of Hawaii football team will be on the road for the first time this season with three matches spanning six days in two states, stopping first in Gonzaga on Thursday and continuing in Washington , Sunday. In two regular season games and two exhibitions, the Rainbow Wahine have allowed a total of one goal. The only goal came in the 47th minute of action against South Dakota State, less than 48 hours after playing a 0-0 draw with North Texas in two overtime.
junior goalie Lauren Marquez made a statement in both matches, most notably against North Texas. Facing an aggressive Mean Green side, Marquez saw seven shots and kept the game going scoreless for 110 minutes of action in his first career start.
While UH couldn’t find the back of the net against the Mean Green or the Jackrabbits, they did have their chances. Second year midfielder Eliza ammendolia had three shots and two on goal, while the first-year midfielder Krista peterson added two more.
Historically, the ‘Bows have been successful against Gonzaga, but not against Washington State. UH holds an all-time record of 3-1 against the Zags, with the last game in 2014 in a loss. They recently dropped a meeting with Washington State at home in 2019, taking their record against the Cougars to 0-7.
