Savannah On Wheels, Cupid Ride Pet GRRR Team Benefits
Valentine’s Day is approaching and we all know restaurants and bars will be filled with celebrating couples. If you’re looking for a different experience to have with your loved one, Savannah On Wheels offers a Cupid-themed bike ride to raise money for Georgia Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Relocation, better known as GRRR.
Saturday at noon, the Last Stop Loved Bike Ride will zip through the streets of downtown Savannah to get a different perspective on the city from the comfort of two wheels.

“This is a community-driven event to raise awareness and hopefully raise funds for Georgia Rescue, Rehabilitation & Relocation, and the amazing work they do in Savannah and surrounding counties,” said Melissa Austin. , owner of Savannah On Wheels.
“It’s a police escorted 8km ride through the historic district and hopefully people will dress up in their best Cupid themed outfit and put on a show to raise awareness of the audience at GRRR.”
Austin said the desire to help GRRR grew after hearing about the organization last year when GRRR was accepting donations for a fundraising garage sale.

“Once I started to dig a little deeper, I discovered the work done by GRRR, particularly their Last Stop Loved program, which focuses on older dogs who have been abandoned. Maybe they are blind or deaf and their owners can’t take care of them anymore so they abandon them to a rescue and usually it’s GRRR GRRR takes the dogs and finds a forever home for their remaining days so that they can feel loved as they live the rest of their lives.
“We are grateful to have animal lovers in the community like Melissa,” said GRRR Director Perry Brandon. “Her compassion and thoughtfulness make her a great asset to Savannah, and we know that many older puppies will have a better life because of her efforts.”
There is room for around 50 riders on the Last Stop Loved Bike Ride. There will be a police escort for security. The whole trip is approximately five miles and will take the group through historic squares. It is expected to last one hour.

Savannah On Wheels offers bikes for rent, but anyone with their own bike is welcome to bring them. If you’re interested but not sure you can go the full five miles, Austin said not to worry.
“It will be a very leisurely ride, but anyone feeling tired is welcome to get out of the group early and head home or maybe just rest and have a cup of coffee.”
On-site registration will be available at Savannah On Wheels at 405 W. Hall St., but can also be done online at SavannahCupidRide.org. Registration is $25, bike rental is $5, and a special event t-shirt is also available for $5. Anyone needing to hire a bike is encouraged to arrive by 11am in order to find the right bike before the ride begins.
While this is Savannah On Wheels’ first time partnering with GRRR, it won’t be the last. “Hopefully this is the first of many Cupid Rides we’re going to do,” Austin said.
