Sportsman’s Tiki Ride is August 7th

(Spirit Lake) – Look for hundreds of cyclists in the Iowa Great Lakes on Saturday, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The athlete’s annual Tiki Ride will take place on Saturday at Spirit Lake.
Organizer Dave Tryon said hundreds of cyclists are expected to participate. “This will be our 7th year, we started with around 40 people initially. I had friends in Des Moines who have a bunch of bikes that cycle every RAGBRAI, and they wanted me to organize a ride to Okoboji , and I said I will if you bring your bus in here and start it. So in the first year I think we had 40 people, and then each time the number literally doubled, up to at between 500 and 1000 passengers. year, so it has become a little more popular. We start at Sportsman’s around 9 am, we go around the west side of Big Spirit, come back to Sportsman’s and have lunch. We start from there, descend by the stables, let’s cross over to Lakeshore Drive, around the west side of West Lake. There are several stops and sponsors along the way that give away prizes. The idea of the Tiki Ride is just to create a lot of business in the area, and it’s just a lot of fun. “
He adds that the profits go to the Dickinson County Trails Association. “All of the proceeds from the Tiki Ride go to the trails in Dickinson County, so every year we sort of see new trails. I work with Erin Reed a lot with the trail system, and we clean them all every year and get ready. for the big trip. “
