CHICAGO – Following their first win of the #HLVB season, the IUPUI volleyball team will embark on a grueling three-game road trip this week as they face three of the league’s top teams in four days. The Jaguars face UIC (10-10, 6-2) on Thursday, followed by a game in Milwaukee (15-6, 9-0) on Friday.
The Head Coach Lindsey FröhlichThe team will complete the three-game trip to Green Bay (10-11, 5-4) on Sunday before heading home. The Jaguars lost successively to all three teams to open the Horizon League game at the end of September.
However, the Jaguars showed continued progress, punctuated by a 3-1 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne last Friday. IUPUI (3-18, 1-9) hit .278 as a team and saw Emilie Alain recorded a career-high 12 kills on just 23 swings in the win. First-year student Briana brown recorded a team record of 16 kills and Maddie Haines sparked the attack with 11 murders. Defensively, Addie evans had a team record of 15 recoveries and Rhiannon schuenemann collected 11 digs in victory.
The IUPUI’s 0.278 attacking percentage was a season high, as its 56 kills were tied for most in a four-set game this season.
Brown continues to lead the IUPUI offensive with 3.01 eliminations per set while Brooke phillips lead the group with 8.32 assists per set. In the league, Brown increased his output to 3.22 eliminations per set and Phillips provides 8.59 assists per set. Phillips also has 27 aces serving, a team-high, and Evans and Schuenemann have 25 each.
Defensively, Millai Madison has a team-high of 60.0 blocks and Schuenemann collects a team-high of 3.37 digs per set.
SCOUTING UIC (10-10, 6-2 HL)
UIC are 6-2 in Horizon League play as they have a 0.245 offense against league enemies. Paola Santiago averages 3.97 kills / set in the league while Martina Delucchi averages 3.00 kills / set. Sohila Wafeek averages 10.47 assists / set and also delivered 11 aces. Defensively, Jaclyn Oblena has a team-high 3.63 digs / set in the league and Santiago is the team’s top tackle at 15.0.
SCOUTING MILWAUKEE (15-6, 9-0 HL)
Milwaukee has won nine consecutive Horizon League competitions since ending its non-conference season with a loss to UCLA. In the league, the Panthers hit .297 and limit their opponents to just .138. The Panthers have three hitters with over 3.5 kills / set with Ari Miller (4.13), Madi Malone (3.63) and Carmen Heilemann (3.56). Rylie Vaughn averages 11.59 assists per set. Defensively, Miller has a team-high 24.0 blocks in the league and Jess Grabowski averages a team-high 4.13 digs / set.
GREEN BAY SCOUTING (10-11, 5-4 HL)
Green Bay comes in this week after winning three of their last four games with the recent home sweeps of Youngstown State and Robert Morris. Alexandra Zakutney is averaging a team-high 3.38 assists per set in the league and Calli Gentry is recording with a team-high 9.79 assists per set. Tiffany Paalman is high of 28.0 blocks and Iro Chounta is collecting a high of 3.10 digs per set.
